REVIEW

I loved the Arabian inspired setting with its magic and fascinating lore, but ultimately the story suffered from lack of tension and slow pacing.

The story started off strong, but failed to keep my attention at times because of how slowly it moved. Though it seemed like the quest should be urgent, it didn’t feel like that in reality as it was bogged down with dialogue that did little to move the plot forward. I also kinda wish there had been a glossary of terms; some were easy enough to figure out in context but a reference guide would have been helpful.

One well done aspect was the slow burn relationship arc between Zafira and Nasir. While so many enemies to lovers stories recklessly rush the romance even when it doesn’t make sense, this one treaded carefully and slowly, creating a solid foundation that I’m sure will evolve into a romance in the next book. Also, shout-out to Altair who is my fav!
