BOOK BLURB
It’s been five years since 17-year-old Faron became the Childe Empyrean and freed San Irie from decades of Langlish occupation. When the Iryan Queen invites the Langley Empire to an international peace summit, Faron’s sister Elara inadvertently forms an unbreakable bond with a Langlish dragon. Faron is faced with an impossible task – finding a way to both save her sister and protect her country.
REVIEW
This Jamaican inspired fantasy is set in a country that is rebuilding after decades of colonization, focusing on the aftermath of war. The story is told from the perspective of Faron, the chosen of the gods, and her older sister Elara, who is set on becoming a drake pilot. I loved their relationship; though Elara has lived in Faron’s shadow for years, they still have such a strong bond.
This book puts Black women at the front and center. There is great queer representation, featuring sapphic romance, a demi-sexual protagonist, and plenty of other queer couples. If you enjoy an enemies to lovers arc, this book is for you!
The Jamaican inspired world includes magical war machines, dragons, a dragon riding academy, and powerful gods. I liked the different magic systems: the astral magic of the Iryans and the dragon relic magic of the Langleys.
If you need a book to cure your Onyx Storm hangover, this just might be the one. 🔥🐉
