REVIEW
Lore of the Tides is a solid conclusion to this duology, delivering adventure, romance, and magic as Lore explores the world beyond Duskmere.
This sequel was easier to follow than the first book and there is so much to love. The new setting onboard the ship was fun and I loved the overarching ocean theme. There is more world building as Lore visits new places, learns about other societies, makes new allies, and runs into magical creatures. We get some fantastic new characters who quickly earned my affection. It did feel like things were too easy at times, but Lore’s quest wraps up neatly and I liked the way everything resolved.
As with the previous book, this fell short for me in the romance. After my disappointment that Asher/Syrelle betrayed Lore in the prior book, he did present as a more sympathetic character but it seemed pretty clear that he was unforgivable.
I wanted to like Finndryl but the fact that he was introduced so late in the first book made it difficult since I had already been invested in Lore’s relationship with Asher/Syrelle. This sequel did not give enough page time to truly build up the relationship between Finndryl and Lore before it ramped up to full speed. The open door sex scenes didn’t work for me because there wasn’t enough tension buildup beforehand. Also, I’m sorry but I HATED the “Good Girl” stuff.
While the romance didn’t work for me, I still really enjoyed the fantasy elements and recommend this book. I’m excited to see what Analeigh Sbrana does next!
