“It’s all fun and games until someone ends up dead.
Six months ago, season four of The Escape Game ended in horror when contestant Alicia Angelos was found murdered on set.
Now season five is underway, and new contestants are ready to put their skills to the test solving the show’s trickiest escape rooms. There’s Adi, the cryptographer; Carter, the math whiz; Beck, the wannabe game master; and . . . Sierra Angelos, the girl who got away with her sister’s murder. Or so everyone believes.
But Sierra’s not just here to win. She’s here for justice.
When the contestants begin uncovering clues that hint at the identity of Alicia’s true killer, it becomes clear that the stakes aren’t high in this competition, they’re deadly. If these teens want to win—and survive—the game, they must solve the biggest mystery of all: who killed Alicia Angelos?”
REVIEWThank you to the publisher for the digital copy!
This book was so much fun! I loved the concept of an escape room gameshow and the story absolutely delivered. The escape room challenges that the characters faced were detailed enough that it felt like I was playing along with them as I was reading. It’s a great book for readers who love puzzles.
I was apprehensive about the multiple POVs but each character was well distinguished and the third person narrative style helped too. I liked each of the four main characters—Adi, Carter, Sierra, and Beck—and felt that each one had an intriguing reason to be on the show. Sierra especially, since the idea of her returning to the game show even after her sister’s death on set was such a wild premise. The family secrets, hidden motives, and unique skills all kept me invested in their story.
The murder mystery aspect was well done, weaving in clues that would allow an observant reader to make an educated guess about the identity of the murderer, but some red herrings did trip me up along the way. The pace ramps up when the murderer is revealed and the fast pace finale was the perfect ending to this story. I’m very excited to read the next book!
This book seems targeted at older YA readers, as there is strong language, alcohol/drinking, discussions about older men dating eighteen year olds, and other mature subjects.
