“Seven old friends reunite in the sleepy town of Cedar Lake at the remote cabin where cult B movie Slasher was filmed. Things have changed since high school, and they’re looking forward to a weekend to catch up. But when night falls, a masked figure is spotted in the woods, and the reunion takes a deadly turn. Is someone trying to make their Slasher experience as authentic as possible?”

REVIEW

Thank you Crown Publishing for the advanced copy of this book! This is a multi-POV campy horror novel written in third person from the perspective of each of the seven friends. I thought I’d love this but unfortunately I really struggled to finish it and considered DNFing several times.

This book nailed the horror character tropes but introducing seven characters really slowed down the pace in the beginning. The premise demanded a very meta approach that resulted in a formulaic story despite the role reversals. The story picked up closer to the halfway mark and I did like the ending, but ultimately it wasn’t as fun as I’d hoped it would be.
