Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay is a young adult fiction novel set in an Arthurian inspired world with a touch of magic. It is the sequel to Gwen & Art Are Not In Love, multi-POV and written in third person perspective.

This duology is one where I love all of the characters and it’s hard to pick a favorite! I enjoyed both Gabe and Bridget’s chapters and loved seeing Arthur and Gwen through their eyes.

This book explores how trauma and loss affects each of the characters and their relationships with the others. The quests serve almost as therapy sessions, pushing characters out of their comfort zone and providing opportunities for self reflection. There are plenty of awkward encounters and tough conversations, but there’s always an injection of humor to balance out the more emotional scenes. There were so many laugh out loud moments—shout-out to the hambaby!—and I loved that aspect.

While Camelot has changed since Gabe is now on the throne, things aren’t perfect. The main characters in this book are queer people existing in a society that isn’t queer normative, so they encounter prejudice and pushback against Gabe’s initiative to legalize queer relationships. Still, there is love and acceptance within the friend group, and they refuse to give in to the bigotry and ignorance.

This was a fun follow-up to Gwen & Art Are Not In Love and I’m so glad we got another story about these characters!
