Thank you Ace for the digital copy of Morfran, Dark Lord Reformed by S.B. West! This is a standalone adult fantasy novel written in third person with a single point of view.

This book met my expectations, delivering on the humorous premise while also providing a solid redemption arc for our Dark Lord Reformed. I wouldn’t exactly describe this as a cozy novel in part due to the higher stakes, gory scenes, and deadly battles, though it has cozy elements like cute animals, found family, and silly humor. The tone was reminiscent of stories like Shrek and Megamind, poking fun at story tropes, though it wasn’t near the same level as those stories and the references overall seemed a bit unfocused.

It’s very light on romance, as the story revolves around Morfran’s character development and his relationship with the rebels, but there is a sweet relationship that grows over the course of the novel. It’s a cute story, I enjoyed it, though it wasn’t anything standout in the lineup of books with similar premises.
